Welcome to Earth Group’s Minecraft build of the life cycle of rice! We will introduce the life of a rice grain on a rented piece of land in the Jianghan plain of Hubei during the later 1880s-1920s. Along the Yangtze River, we will follow topics on rice farming, including the land, weather/seasons, irrigation, germination, sowing, transplanting, weeding, harvesting, and storage. Outside of the farming portion, we explored topics such as the landlord relationship, the materials used to construct buildings, the homes the farmers lived in, and the economics around the sale of rice. Our build consists of a model of the Yangtze River, rice paddies, storage building (aka Grainary), and the farmer’s home. The build also contains an exhibition of tools stated to be used throughout our research. The exhibition is not to scale the actual tools that would’ve been used. Throughout the build walkthrough, we have placed chests with books that contain links to these specific topics that we expand upon the signage we have within the build.
